Dr Gordon Aikman BEM: 1985 - 2017

Dr. Gordon Aikman, Motor Neurone Disease (MND) campaigner and fundraiser, has passed away at 31 years old. Mr Aikman was born in Kirkcaldy and studied Business at the University of Edinburgh. Aged 29 Gordon was diagnosed with MND and shortly after set up the 'Gordon's Fightback' campaign, which transformed patient care and raised over £500,000 for MND research. In 2015, the former political strategist received an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh and a British Empire Medal from HM The Queen.
