Farewell and Congratulations!

Thursday, 1 July, 2021

This week we waved a fond farewell to Professor Catherina Becker and Dr Thomas Becker (both Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences) as they moved to Germany to take up new Professorial positions in the Centre for Regenerative Therapies at TU Dresden.

Both Catherina and Thomas have been very active and collegiate members of our neuroscience community and I’m sure many of you will have received advice, kindness and support from them over the years.  We wish them both well in their new roles.

They won't be leaving us completely though as there will still be a group in Edinburgh (two postdocs and five PhD students) and Catherina and Thomas will continue to be provide them with supervision and guidance, and hope to be in Edinburgh every other month.

And today Catherina was announced as one of six Alexander van Humboldt Professorships awarded for 2022 (and the only woman).  This is the most prestigious German scientific prize (each awardee receives five million EUR over the period of five years to support their research) and has been awarded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation since 2008. Congratulations Catherina!
