Sir Henry Dale fellowship awarded to Dr Laura McCulloch

Congratulations to Dr Laura McCulloch on being awarded a £1M Royal Society & Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale Fellowship to work on her project “Does stroke impair immunological memory and increase infectious disease risk during the chronic phase of recovery?”
Laura was a PhD student with Dr Neil Mabbott at The Roslin institute and is currently a postdoc with Dr Barry McColl in the Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences. She will be setting up her own research group in the Centre for Inflammation Research and tells me she will be recruiting a postdoc soon!
Laura is thrilled and wanted to highlight how the opportunites provided by Edinburgh Neuroscience have helped her develop her career: “Throughout my post-doctoral research time at the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh neuroscience has provided regular opportunities that have helped me to build my cv to the stage where I felt able to apply for fellowship funding. These include presenting my work and hosting visiting scientists to build new research collaborations. I have also received funding to carry out pilot studies and travel to other universities to learn new techniques. Additionally the regular updates on wider funding and learning opportunities have made keeping up to date with relevant grant calls and meetings a lot easier. I’m truly grateful for the support Edinburgh Neuroscience has provided to me as an ECR and I’d strongly encourage other ECRs to take advantage of these internal opportunities too.”
