Congratulations to Gashirai Mbizvo (Clinical Research Fellow, Muir Maxwell Epilepsy Centre) who was awarded the 'Best Overall Presentation' prize at the Scottish Association of Neurological Sciences (SANS) Annual Meeting in November 2017.

Congratulations to Mark Rodrigues (Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences) who was recently awarded the Scottish Radiological Society Anne Hollman Medal. This medal is awarded annually by the Scottish Radiological Society for the best oral research or audit presentation by a radiology trainee. Mark's presentation was about how we can use routine imaging along with genetics to help diagnose the underlying cause of intracerebral haemorrhage.

Congratulations to Michael Stringer (Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, Edinburgh Imaging) who was awarded 'Postdoctoral and Early Career Researcher Exchange (PECRE)' funding from SINAPSE, the Scottish Imaging Network. The PECRE scheme provides research and development opportunities for postdoctoral/early career researchers. During his PECRE exchange Michael will visit three groups involved with the Leducq Transatlantic Network: the Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute of the University of Southern California (Prof Berislav Zlokovic), Yale University (Prof Helene Benveniste) and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Prof Sandra Black).
Using data from an existing bank of brain scans held in the USA, researchers have found that chimpanzee brains may be more different from those of humans than was previously thought.

Professor Adrian Bird and colleagues (all School of Biological Sciences), in collaboration with Dr. Stuart Cobb and colleagues (formerly University of Glasgow, now Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences), have recently written a report for Nature on their research into Rett Syndrome.

PhD student Sarah Lampriere (Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences) has been named winner of the Nature magazine 'Better Science through Better Data' writing competition, which was all about open data.

Professor Gillian Mean (Geriatric Medicine, Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences) appeared on the BBC2 programme ‘Trust me I’m a doctor’ at 9pm on Wednesday 01 November as aprt of a special episode focusing on Mental Health. She is being interviewed about the benefits of exercise on mental health, in particular bouldering. You can view it on the BBC iPlayer until Saturday 09 December.

Edinburgh Neuroscience researchers and students had a busy couple of weeks this month delivering a series of events and schools workshops for the Midlothian Science Festival 2017, reaching almost 400 school pupils and about 800 members of the public at drop-in activities and events.
